Deadline to Submit New Course Proposals for the Spring 2026 Semester

The deadline for proposals for new courses to be offered in the Spring 2026 semester is 4 PM Tuesday, September 9. APSC must take those course proposals to the October Faculty Meeting to secure approval for their offering. The New Course Proposal Form is available online on the APSC Curriculum Revisions webpage. Please email the completed form to apsc@dickinson.edu no later than 4 PM Tuesday, September 9.

Faculty may experiment with a new course by requesting that it be considered a "one-time-only" offering. Such courses require only the approval of APSC, not the entire faculty. To give the Committee sufficient information about these courses, however, you are required to submit the course proposal form, indicating "one-time-only" prominently on the top of the form.

Ending Federal Regulation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

When: Wednesday, September 10, at 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Where: Kaufman Hall, Room 186
Pizza will be served!

Join us for a conversation with Professor Emeritus John Dernbach about the USEPA’s proposal to rescind its endangerment finding for greenhouse gases (GHGs). The EPA is currently inviting public comment on its proposal, which, if adopted, would end EPA’s regulation of GHG emissions from motor vehicles and undermine the legal basis for federal regulation of GHG emissions from all other sources. The conversation will help you to better understand this important issue and to submit comments for the public record.

John C. Dernbach is Professor Emeritus of Environmental Law and Sustainability at Widener University, Commonwealth Law School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Professor Dernbach co-authored an influential amicus brief in the Supreme Court case Massachusetts v EPA that led to EPA issuing its endangerment finding in 2007. He has written and spoken widely on sustainable development, climate change, and environmental law; has significant experience teaching law students and undergraduates; has contributed to three landmark judicial decisions; is the primary drafter of four major Pennsylvania environmental laws; and is the primary author of a legal writing text that is regarded as a classic in the field.

For background information about EPA’s proposal to rescind its endangerment finding, visit: /info/20052/sustainability/4621/voice_your_opinion.

This Earth Issues event is cosponsored by the Center for Sustainability Education and the Department of Environmental Studies.

Residential Fire Drills

Students, Faculty, and Staff,

The Dickinson Department of Compliance & Enterprise Risk Management is planning to conduct its annually-required fire drills in all residential buildings next week, the week of September 8th, 2025. These are performed to practice emergency response and to comply with national regulations for fire drills. The drills will be largely unannounced apart from this message. Please know that many considerations were made in selecting fire drill times including collaboration with the Dean’s Office, Access and Disability Services, and others.

Each fire drill will consist of several elements: the alarm activation, occupant evacuation, and congregation at your building’s designated outdoor emergency assembly area. Once occupants have been successfully evacuated, the college’s Safety & Emergency Management Specialist will review basic fire safety with the group before allowing reentry into the building. Each drill is anticipated to last less than ten minutes, largely dependent on the number of building occupants.

Please note the following:
• If you are unfamiliar with your building’s emergency assembly area, this information can be found on your building’s Quick Reference Guides, located throughout each building by fire alarm pull stations and exit doors. We ask that you review this information for each building you may visit.
• Take note of alternate exit routes in your building. Studies have shown that occupants often exit a building through the same door they entered. Knowing alternate exit routes greatly improves your response in the event of an evacuation.
• Members of the college’s Workplace Safety Committee will be assisting the Department of Compliance & Enterprise Risk Management and DPS with these drills. Those helping will have the responsibility to assist with the evacuation process. If you should require assistance during one of the drills, please locate one of these individuals for further assistance.
• For buildings without a central alarm system, a verbal announcement will be made via megaphone repeating the following: “This is fire drill, please evacuate the building” until the building has been fully evacuated.

Click here for more information on fire safety at ĢƵ.

Trout Gallery Accepting Applications

Make your mark on the Trout Gallery! Apply now to become a Trout Workshop collaborator. During workshop sessions, the group will create social media content, test and evaluate art activities, lesson plans, and exhibition tours, and offer personal reflections about connections between art museums and the world we live in. Trout Workshop collaborators also plan a spring social event, The Trout Gala, for Dickinson students.
